Students taking this course will be taking the 8th grade New York State Mathematics exam in May of 2012.
This course of study is based on the content and processes specifically outlined in the New York State Mathematics Core Curriculum (2005). During the 2011 - 2012 school-year, we will be using a comprehensive approach to balanced mathematics as our instructional approach. By using this method, teachers create opportunities for students to experience problem solving, develop conceptual understanding and
practice procedural fluency while focusing on four content areas of mathematical study: Algebra, Geometry, Number Sense & Operations, and Measurement. Students will have the opportunity to build new
mathematical ideas while simultaneously practicing needed procedures.
